Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones (born September 25, 1969) is an Oscar-winning Welsh actress. Born Catherine Jones in Swansea, West Glamorgan, Wales, her name stems from those of her grandmothers; one named Catherine, and the other Zeta, named after a ship which her great-grandfather had sailed on. She was one of three children born to Patrick Jones, a Welsh candy factory worker and Dia Fair, who was of Irish Catholic extraction; Catherine was raised a Catholic. Besides English she speaks Welsh, Spanish and French fluently. As a child, she had a tracheotomy which left a scar.

Zeta-Jones’ stage career began in childhood. She sang and danced her way to local stardom as a part of a Catholic congregation’s performing troupe before she was 10, and by 1987 she was starring in Forty-Second Street as Peggy Saywer in the West End. Once the show closed, Zeta-Jones travelled to France, where she received the lead role in French director Phillippe De Broca’s 1001 Nights (a.k.a. Sheherazade), her feature film debut.

Her exotic beauty, along with her singing and dancing ability, suggested a promising future, but it was in a straight acting role, as Mariette in the successful television adaptation of H. E. Bates’ The Darling Buds of May (1991), that she made her name. She became famous outside Britain after leading roles in two movies, The Mask of Zorro (1998) with Antonio Banderas and Entrapment (1999) with Sean Connery. It is said that she gained the role in Zorro after Steven Spielberg saw her performance in the Lifetime Television event of Titanic, also starring Tim Curry and Peter Gallagher.

She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the movie Chicago in 2003. On October 22, 2005, she parodied this fact as guest host on the TV show Saturday Night Live, surrounded by four male dancers, mimicking the Bob Fosse-inspired Chicago-style dancing, suggesting in song that, no matter how bad she might be that night, "They Can’t Take My Oscar Away."

Apart from her acting career, Zeta-Jones is also an advertising spokeswoman for the mobile phone company T-Mobile. She is currently the global spokeswoman for cosmetics giant, Elizabeth Arden.

Zeta-Jones is married to actor Michael Douglas, with whom she has two children. Her son, Dylan Michael Douglas was born August 8, 2000. (Her American admirers like to think that he is named after Bob Dylan - a favourite of Douglas - while her British admirers like to think that Dylan Thomas, also born in Swansea, was the inspiration, although Dylan is a reasonably common Welsh firstname). Her daughter, Carys Zeta Douglas was born April 20, 2003. Zeta-Jones has determined that her children grow up aware of their Welsh heritage and has built a seaside dream home in her hometown of Swansea.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie (who was born Angelina Jolie Voight on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress and humanitarian. She is renowned for her award winning acting talent and known for her exotic looks, full lips, wild child image, numerous tattoos and her humanitarian work with refugees. She has received three Golden Globes as well as an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Lisa Rowe in the movie Girl, Interrupted.

In July 2005, Jolie became the third actress to join the coveted "$20 Million Club" of actresses commanding fees of $20 million per movie. She joined Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts when she signed to do Mr. & Mrs. Smith for that amount. Jolie became a citizen of Cambodia by decree of its King Norodom Sihamoni on August 11, 2005; the citizenship was awarded to her in honor of her environmental work in the country, but has no effect on her U.S. citizenship.

Biography
Jolie is the daughter of divorced actors Jon Voight and American born Marcheline Bertrand. She is the niece of Chip Taylor and the goddaughter of Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell. In an article in Vogue (2004) she stated that her mother is from Chicago. At the Premiere Magazine "Women in Hollywood" Awards she said her mom was born in a bowling alley. She has stated that because of her name people often assume that her mother is French. Jolie’s grandparents were French Canadian. Her mother also studied with Lee Strasberg himself. She is of Czech, French-Canadian, English, and Iroquois descent. As a child she dreamed of becoming a funeral director. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute from the age of 11, later attending Beverly Hills High School. Though she enrolled at the film school at New York University after finishing Gia, she did not complete her studies.

On March 28, 1996 she married British actor Jonny Lee Miller, with whom she had co-starred in the movie Hackers. Jolie attended her wedding in black leather trousers and a white shirt, which had her husband’s name painted in her blood on the back. Jolie and Miller divorced on February 3, 1999. Jolie then married American actor Billy Bob Thornton on May 5, 2000, and together they adopted a son from Cambodia, Maddox Chivan Thornton Jolie, who was born on August 5, 2001. Jolie and Thornton divorced on May 27, 2003, and Jolie now has custody of Maddox.

Jolie has been long estranged from her father, though a reconciliation was attempted by his appearing with her in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. In the October 2004 issue of Premiere Magazine, Jolie indicated that she was no longer interested in pursuing a relationship with her father, but that she did not hate him but that she realized that "…we only have so much energy in this life." Soon after, he claimed that she has "serious emotional problems" on Access Hollywood, and she legally dropped Voight as her last name, taking Angelina Jolie as her legal name.

In 2003, Jolie published a collection of journals made during missions for the UNHCR. Her proceeds from the book went to the UNHCR.Jolie has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees since 2001, and frequently travels to remote countries to draw attention to the plight of people in Third World nations. In 2003, she published Notes from My Travels, a collection of journal entries chronicling her early work with the U.N.. In a January 2005 interview with Reuters, Jolie criticized fellow actors for not being committed enough in helping others, and stated that she gives one-third of her income to charitable organizations.

Jolie was also one of the first celebrities to accept an invitation to be one of the bearers of the Olympic Torch during the 2004 Olympic Games, though she was ultimately unable to participate due to filming commitments.

In the fall of 2004, it was reported that Jolie has started proceedings to adopt another child, this time from Russia. However, no adoption ever took place. On March 8th, Jolie took part in a Washington Press club luncheon. [1] It was there that she announced the founding of the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children in Washington, D.C. It’s an organization that provides free legal aid to children who prior to this had no legal representation. Jolie donated $500,000 to the center which will help keep it afloat for the first two years of its operation. At that same conference she stated that she never intended to adopt a Russian orphan boy. Jolie expressed a deep sadness at the media’s exploitation of the child. Jolie stated that she was on business through the United Nations and not looking for a child to adopt. She also mentioned that her son wanted an "African brother" because of his love of Africa and the work he knows she does in that region.

Around the same time, Lauryn Galindo, the Hawaii-based adoption facilitator whose services Jolie had used to adopt Maddox, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to visa fraud and money laundering charges. She had been falsifying records of children to be adopted in visa applications to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and several of the children she placed had not been abandoned at all but were enticed away or bought from their birth families. There is no evidence that Maddox was among them, although the investigation is continuing. Maddox Jolie, as he is legally named, was naturalized as a United States citizen some time ago, and there is no indication that that will be rescinded.

Besides her acting and humanitarian endeavors, Jolie also worked as a professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles and appeared in numerous music videos including those of Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, and The Rolling Stones.

For several years prior to mid 2005, Jolie did not have a hit movie. Several of her movies, such as Alexander, Sky Captain, and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life were major box office disappointments although Jolie usually received good notices. She did provide the voice of Lola in the successful animated film, Shark Tale. Nonetheless she remains one of Hollywood’s most "in-demand" actresses.

In early 2005, Jolie found herself at the center of a well-publicized Hollywood scandal when she was accused of being the "other woman" in the marital break-up of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. The allegation was that she and Pitt had started an affair during filming of the spy comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith, something she denies. In several interviews she has denied starting an affair with Pitt. In an interview with Marie Claire magazine recently she stated that she could never have a relationship with a married man because she has seen what relationships like that did to her mother. Her father has acknowledged that he cheated on Jolie’s mom when they were married. Jolie stated she "could not, could not look herself in the mirror" if she had an affair with a married man.

Thanks to a mixture of generally good reviews and advance publicity due to all the rumors, Mr. & Mrs. Smith opened in the No. 1 position at the box office after it was released in early June 2005, providing Jolie with her first box-office success in several years. In March 2005, Jolie was named the third sexiest woman in the world by FHM magazine, from fifteen million votes worldwide.

Angelina on the cover of Men StyleSince taking on her goodwill ambassador duties, Jolie has on numerous occasions made public statements that she wants to quit acting and concentrate on her UN work (for example, see Ireland On-Line in June 2005 [2]). However, she has also stated that her work provides the income necessary for her to continue travelling the world on behalf of the UN.

Jolie continues to balance the demands of being a movie star with that of being a humanitarian, despite an apparently grueling schedule. On June 7, 2005, the Associated Press wire service reported on Jolie giving a presentation in Islamabad, Pakistan. That very same day, she attended the premiere of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in Los Angeles. She now lives full-time in Buckinghamshire, England, and owns property in Cambodia, which she had to have demined. Angelina Jolie spent the new year of 2005 by going abroad to film a documentary called "A Moment in the World." She called on several actors and actresses to film in various locations around the world at the same time for three minutes. This was done in order to capture random moments that are happening across the world at the same time. Some confusion has arisen between this project and the independent endeavor A Moment on Earth, in which 60 filmmakers around the world captured two separate moments on August 5th and 6th, 2004. No release dates for either project are known at this time.

In late June 2005, the New York Post reported a claim that Jolie is pregnant, a report republished on June 30 by Britain’s Sky TV, Sun Media Corporation in Canada, and the Asian Hindustan Times, among others. Her publicists presently deny this report. On July 5, 2005, People magazine reported that Jolie was in the final stages of adopting a baby girl, who was orphaned by AIDS, from Ethiopia, through the agency Wide Horizons for Children. Jolie has named her daughter Zahara Marley Jolie. A woman in London has been claiming she is Zahara’s birth mother since August of 2005. There has been no legal development regarding this claim. Ms. Jolie has contacted a lawyer in London to look into the matter. Earlier in the summer another woman came foward claiming to be the grandmother of Zahara. That claim too proved to be false. On September 28th 2005 while making an appearance to discuse American’s financial involvment with fighting AIDS globally on CNN’s "The Situation Room" with Wolf Blitzer Jolie stated that her daughter is a "AIDS orphan." By that she means her birth mother died from the disease but her daughter does not have the disease. The birth father of Zahara is not known. Her statement made it clear that the birth mother is indeed dead. In late October of 2005 a Ethiopian judge ruled that there is no evidence to suggest that Ms. Jolie would have to file for re-adoption of her daughter Zahara Marley Jolie. The judge ruled that the woman claiming to be her mother is not the birth mother.

In September of 2005 Angelina Jolie was named the new spokesperson for the clothing line St. John Knits starting in the Spring/Fall 0f 2006. The deal with the clothing company includes the startup of a charity headed by Ms. Jolie. The charity will focus on children’s issues and causes. It has been reported but not comfired that Angelina Jolie will also sit on the board of directors and have stock in the company. The deal is also believed to be the biggest celebrity clothing endorsement with the actress receiving 10-15 million dollars. Other celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow receive something in the neighborhood of 5 million dollars to promote luxury clothing and accessories. On October 24 Angelina Jolie attended the First Annual Benefit Gala for the Worldwide Orpahns Foundation. While there she pleadged to partner with WWO to treat children in Ethiopia who have been orphaned by AIDS and are HIV positive. "AIDS is chronic and manageable, and does NOT have to kill any longer," said Ms. Jolie. Ms. Jolie announced her plan to support WWO’s Pediatric HIV/AIDS Clinic in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and pledged an initial grant. The gala helped the organization raise $800,000. Dr. Jane Aronson, the organization’s founder, and Ms. Jolie first met through the adoption of her daughter Zahara and Jolie credits the doctor with helping save her daughter’s life.

The American magazine US Weekly, in reporting Jolie’s second adoption, indicated erroneously that Jolie and Pitt had adopted the girl together. When the magazine realized its error, the presses were stopped and an apology issued to Jolie and Pitt; printing of the issue resumed with the correction made, though a number of copies with the error were still released to the public. Reportedly, however, Pitt was present when Jolie signed the adoption papers. The agency later said Brad Pitt was not present when Angelina Jolie picked up her daughter. [3]

In August 2005, Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni awarded Jolie a Cambodian citizenship for her conservation work in the country.

Speculation over the nature of Jolie and Pitt’s relationship continued throughout the summer of 2005. On August 22, the Calgary Herald ran a front-page story with a photo of Jolie taken during a surprise visit she made to Calgary, Alberta a couple of days earlier, accompanied by Zahara. Brad Pitt was at that time filming a movie in Calgary, as was her father, Jon Voight. It was later reported that Jolie and Pitt visited the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, Alberta together, and CNN and the Calgary Sun reported on September 22, 2005 that they visited West Edmonton Mall together.[4] On September 30, the Calgary Sun reported that Pitt and Jolie had rented a house together in the city of Spruce Grove, Alberta, west of Edmonton where Pitt was filming more scenes for his movie; the same issue printed a photograph of the two actors (dubbed "Brangelina") leaving an Edmonton grocery store.

Tattoos

Angelina Jolie showing off her largest tattoo, a large tiger on her backJolie’s inventory of tattoos has become the subject of much media attention, and she infrequently adds or even changes existing tattoos. She has said that all the tattoos she possesses have a special meaning. Her tattoos include:

the letter H (for her brother James Haven) on the inside of her left wrist.
"A prayer for the wild at heart, kept in cages" (Tennessee Williams) on her left forearm.
a large prayer for her son Maddox on her left shoulder which covers up the Chinese/Japanese "death" tattoo.
two pointy black tribals on the lower parts of her back.
Quod me nutrit me destruit (Latin for "What nourishes me destroys me") several inches below her navel.
a tilted Latin cross on the lower left of her abdomen.
a large Asian tiger on her back.
a dragon under the tiger.
XIII (number 13 in Roman numerals) on her left forearm.
Arabic for "strength of will." (العزيمة) on her right forearm.
"know your rights" just under her neck between her shoulders.

Lasered/Covered:

the dragon on her left arm (she has been lasering it for some months now but we can still see some of it).
"Billy Bob", the name of her former husband Billy Bob Thornton, on her left arm.
a Chinese/Japanese character for courage now covered by the Tennessee Williams quote.
a Chinese/Japanese character for death (死) now covered by a prayer for Maddox.
a tattoo both Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina had a copy of. It was on her right forearm, now covered by the "strength of will" tattoo.
a dragon she got in Amsterdam while drunk, now covered by the latin cross.
a window on her lower back. On Inside the Actors Studio, she explained that she covered this tattoo, because, while she used to spend all of her time staring through windows wishing to be outside, she now lives there all of the time.
Jolie has gone on record as saying that a positive effect resulting from the large number of tattoos on her body is that, while she is not opposed to film nudity, filmmakers have been forced to become more creative when plotting any nude or love scenes involving her. Make-up has been used to cover up the tattoos in productions such as the Tomb Raider movies, Alexander, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

She has continually denied rumors of an incestuous relationship with her brother, James Haven. During her acceptance speech for winning the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for Girl Interrupted during the 2000 Academy Awards, Jolie stated "I’m so in love with my brother" which, combined with her affectionate behavior towards her brother that night, sparked the rumors. On Inside the Actor’s Studio she stated that she never had an incestuous relationship with her brother, stating that "the world is a lot sicker than I thought," in reference to the conclusion everyone jumped to. Also in an interview with People Magazine she and her brother stated that being children of divorce they relied on each other and because of that they hold on to each other, as a means of emotional support. Jolie has starred in five student movies, all of which were directed by her brother.
In October 2005, The Sun tabloid in Britain, as well as several American entertainment news programs, reported that Jolie is in the running to appear with her Lara Croft: Tomb Raider co-star Daniel Craig in the next James Bond film, Casino Royale.

Mandy Moore

Amanda Leigh "Mandy" Moore (born April 10, 1984) is an American pop music singer and actress. She was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, but grew up in Seminole County, Florida, outside of Orlando. In between releasing albums, she attended Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs. She is of English, Irish and Cherokee Indian descent.

Biography

Music career

So Real album coverOn December 7, 1999, fifteen-year old Moore released her debut album So Real on Sony’s Epic Records, reaching a peak of #31 on the US Billboard 200 album chart. At the time when she burst out onto the music scene, Moore was considered only as the latest installment in a quickly-growing line of heavily-marketed ‘pop princesses’ that included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson. As the last (and youngest) of the four to reach mainstream radio, her success didn’t match that of her peers. Still, So Real managed to be certified platinum in the US by early 2000, while her debut single, the gold-selling "Candy" just missed the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, peaking at #19. A follow-up single entitled "Walk Me Home" was later released, though it failed to achieve much success.

Moore released a re-worked version of her debut album entitled I Wanna Be With You on May 9, 2000, only six months after So Real hit stores. The album included several new songs, along with tracks from So Real, as well as a couple of remixed songs. I Wanna Be With You reached a peak of #21 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified gold in the US for selling over 500,000 copies. The title track was featured as the lead single, reaching a peak of #17 on the Hot 100 and becoming Moore’s biggest hit to date. The song was also featured in the movie Center Stage.

After the endeavors of her first two albums, Moore confessed that the music style and dance routines that had so heavily affected her success were ‘not hers’, and that she no longer felt comfortable performing them. So, in an attempt to become more artistically ‘in control’ of her music and image, Moore released the self-titled Mandy Moore on June 19, 2001. Critics hailed the album as an "attempt to stake her own space", and remarked that it was one of the most real and fulfilling pop albums on the market at the time. However, this critical success unfortunately did not lead to commercial success, as the LP debuted at a disappointing #35 on the Billboard 200. It has since went on to be certified gold in the US. The lead single, "In My Pocket", was tinged with a unique Middle-Eastern sound, along with a stunning, colorful video; it failed to make a dent in the charts, however, missing the Billboard Hot 100 completely. The follow-up single, "Crush", suffered the same fate, although it received considerable airtime on MTV. The final single, "Cry", was released in early 2002 and tied-in with Moore’s movie A Walk to Remember. It also failed to perform well on the charts. The album sold well in Eastern Asia, however, and the songs "17" and "Saturate Me" were both released as singles overseas.

Coverage album coverOn October 21, 2003, Moore released her fourth album, Coverage. The record consisted entirely of cover songs from the 1970s and ’80s that Moore was influenced by as a child, as well as songs she recently discovered. The album peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200 (her highest ranking to date), though the only released single entitled "Have A Little Faith In Me" failed to perform well on the charts. A video was made for the song "Drop The Pilot", though it was not released as a single in the US.

In early 2004, after Moore was dropped from Sony’s Epic Records, she signed with Warner Brothers Records. However, before she was done with Sony, they released the album Best Of on November 16, 2004, which included all of Moore’s biggest hits from the past five years. However, due to absolutely no promotion, the album peaked at an abysmal #148 on the Billboard 200.

It has been reported that Moore has been working on a new album since June 2005, and that recording will finally end in November 2005.

Film career

In 2001, Moore ventured into Hollywood when she appeared in a small part as the mean, blonde, popular cheerleader Lana Thomas opposite Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews in the film The Princess Diaries. In the movie, Moore performs with friends Anna and Fontana. The song "Stupid Cupid" can also be found on the movie’s soundtrack. Up until this point, her acting had only included the straight-to-video children’s movie Magic Al and the Mind Factory and a voiceover role in Dr. Dolittle 2. In 2001, Mandy also had a small part in the Good Charlotte music video for "Little Things" in which she played a snobby mean girl, much like the character she played in The Princess Diaries.

In 2002, Moore portrayed Jamie Sullivan in her first starring role opposite Shane West in A Walk to Remember. The movie, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, revolves around the developing romance between social outcast and devout Christian, Jamie, and West as bad boy Landon Carter. The movie was considered a moderate success, bringing in $41 million and cementing Moore’s status as a genuine actress. That same year, she played the role of Aeris in the Playstation 2 role-playing game, Kingdom Hearts.

Moore and her A Walk to Remember co-star, Shane WestThe soundtrack featured four songs by Moore ("Cry", "Someday We’ll Know", "It’s Gonna Be Love" and "Only Hope"). Awards also began rolling in for Moore, as she took home Breakthrough Female Performance at that Summer’s MTV Movie Awards, as well as Choice Female Breakout Performance and Choice Chemistry (with Shane West) at the Teen Choice Awards.

In 2003, Moore starred as Halley Martin in How to Deal. Allison Janney, Peter Gallagher, Alexandra Holden, and Trent Ford also starred. Halley is a troubled teen who decides to abandon love after witnessing her parents’ (Janney and Gallagher as Lydia and Len) divorce, her best friend’s (Holden as Scarlett) unexpected incident, and her sister’s rocky engagement. Macon (Ford) comes along and restores Halley’s faith in finding happiness when in love. The movie failed to draw in the teenage crowds in the US, and grossed a total of just $14 million.

Later in 2003, Moore appeared on Punk’d, after being tricked by Ashton Kutcher for destroying someone else’s home.

Moore’s next attempt at a box-office hit was 2004’s Chasing Liberty, which only grossed a disappointing $12 million. Later that summer, she co-starred in a supporting role in the low-budget, religious satire Saved! as Hilary Faye, the popular "good girl" at a Christian school. Although the film never received wide-release, it was critically successful and she received many positive reviews for her role.

In 2005, Moore lent her voice to the movie Racing Stripes. Upcoming films include Romance & Cigarettes, which is slated for an August 2005 release, as well as Personal Shopping.

She is gearing up for a supporting role with Dennis Quaid, William Dafoe, Hugh Grant, Seth Meyers, Jennifer Coolidge, Chris Klein and recently-added Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden for American Dreamz. Shooting completed recently, and Mandy Moore is already back to work with a supporting role in Southland Tales. Mandy has also guest-starred on Entourage in a fictional role of herself quite a few times this season. She is portrayed in the HBO series as a co-star with Vincent Chase in the film adaptation of Aquaman, which in the series is fictionally directed by guest-star James Cameron, who portrays himself.

She will also star in boyfriend Zach Braff’s comedy Scrubs later this year (2005).

She also has been cast to play Diane Keaton’s daughter in Because I Said So. Keaton will portray a meddling mother who tries to keep her daughter (Moore) from following in her own footsteps. One tactic she uses is to try to set her up with the perfect man. Karen Leigh Hopkins and Jessie Nelson wrote the script.

Embarassing Moment

Mandy Moore was at the 2002 MTV Video music Awards fo Asia. Apparently Mandy was suffering from throat problems. When it was time to perform her single Cry (single) Mandy voice kept cracking. Luckily her back up singer aided her through the performance.

Personal Life

Mandy Moore with brown hairMandy’s father is an airline pilot, her mother is an former radio journalist. She has two brothers.
Moore has had a relationship with Scrubs actor Zach Braff since February 2005. They met at a fundraising event for the Democratic party during election time November 2004.
Moore dated actor Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show) for almost two years (2000-2002). Soon after she broke up with Wilmer, Mandy started dating tennisstar Andy Roddick. Andy and Mandy were together for only 16 months, Roddick ended the relationship March 2004.
During Moore’s stint as an opening act for the Backstreet Boys in their 1999 tour, many female fans in attendance booed and jeered impolitely, due to the rumors that she was dating BSB member Nick Carter (in truth, he was dating supermodel/tv host/pop singer Willa Ford, who was also nicknamed "Mandy").

Aimee Jo Johnson

Amy Jo Johnson (born October 6, 1970) is an actress and entertainer. She was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA and her most notable roles have been those of Kimberly Ann Hart on the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and of Julie Emrick on the college drama series Felicity.

Biography
In her early life, Johnson became interested in gymnastics and, after training for years, decided to aim for the Olympics. She eventually reached Class One - the highest status in gymnastics - and participated in competitions hosted both in the United States and in Europe, but was forced to abandon her career as a professional gymnast due to a severe injury.

At the age of 18, she left her home town, Cape Cod, and moved to New York, in order to pursue her acting career. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute (see Lee Strasberg) and the American Musical and Acting Academy. When Johnson felt comfortable with her skills, she left for Los Angeles to audition for her first part.

Her gymnastics background was a clear advantage for her in being chosen for the role of Kimberly Ann Hart in the Power Rangers series (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), in its first 3 seasons 1993-1995. The series achieved unexpected success and Johnson had a fair share of media exposure, both as the character of Kimberly Hart and as herself. After her character left the series, she went on to star in the indie film Susie Q in 1996. In 1997 she participated in the NBC’s adaptation of Lois Duncan’s novel Killing Mr. Griffin, and also played a bulimic gymnast in the movie Perfect Body. She also reprised her role as Kimberly Hart for perhaps the last time in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, as her character was turned evil after being sacrified to Divatox’s fiancee, Maligore.

In 1998, she played the part of a vampire in the cult indie movie Cold Hearts. Soon after, she was invited to play the second most notable role of her acting career: Julie Emrick, a college freshman who becomes the best friend of the lead actress of the Warner Brothers series Felicity. She was in the series for two and a half years.

Her character in the series was originally cast as a dancer, but Johnson managed to convince the producers to turn the role into that of a singer and guitarist, which eventually lead her to being able to play a song of her own composition, entitled Puddle of Grace. The song was added to the show’s official soundtrack. Her talent in music also lead her to star in the movie Sweetwater: A True Rock Story, a biography about the life of Nansi Nevins, lead singer from the band that opened the Woodstock festival, Sweetwater.

Johnson then took roles in a number of indie movies, namely Interstate 60, Pursuit of Happiness (in her sole nude scene) and Hard Ground. She also had a role in the final season of the television crime drama The Division.

As of 2001, she has dedicated herself mostly to music (after her fellow MMPR co-star Thuy Trang’s untimely death), releasing her debut album, titled The Trans-American Treatment and performing live in the Los Angeles area alongside The Amy Jo Johnson Band. She later dropped the band, and limited the instrumental presence in her shows to her acoustic guitar and her voice. She has released another album titled Imperfect released on 1-Mar-05.

In 2002 she played a bit role in the film Interstate 60 as a seducturess on the mythical Interstate 60.

She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

She is currently filming in Outward Blonde with Hilary Duff.

Jennifer Connelly biography

Jennifer Connelly

Jennifer Lynn Connelly (born December 12, 1970 in the Catskill Mountains, New York) is an American film actress. Although she has been working in the film industry since she was a teenager, she has only recently received critical acclaim for her work, most notably for Requiem for a Dream (2000) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), for which she won an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress.

Early life

Connelly was born to Gerard Connelly (an Irish Catholic immigrant and clothing manufacturer) and Eileen (a New York-bred Jewish mother who was an antiques dealer and a masseuse at Esalen). Jennifer was raised in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn near the Brooklyn Bridge, attending St. Ann’s School, except for four years the family spent living in Woodstock, New York. One of her father’s friends through the garmet trade was an advertising executive.

The executive friend suggested Jennifer audition at a modelling agency. At the age of 10, her career started in newspaper and magazine ads, then moved to television commercials.

Her first film role was in the 1984 film Once Upon a Time in America, where she had a small part as "young Deborah Gelly" in Sergio Leone’s gangster epic. She next starred in cult Italian horror director Dario Argento’s Phenomena (1985).

Early film career

Connelly became a star on her next picture, the fantasy Labyrinth (1986). Connelly played Sarah, a teenager who wishes her baby brother into the world of goblins ruled by goblin king Jareth (played by rock superstar David Bowie). Through a series of adventures reminiscent of Alice In Wonderland, The Muppets and Monty Python, Sarah does indeed manage to rescue her brother. A product of the talents of Jim Henson, George Lucas, ex-Monty Python member Terry Jones and designer Brian Froud, the film was a solid hit and enjoys a cult reputation today.

Connelly seemed stuck as to how to follow up on this success. She made a Japanese pop record and starred in several obscure films - Etoile (1988) and Some Girls (1988). The Dennis Hopper directed The Hot Spot (1990) was underwhelming, both critical and commercially. Another film, Career Opportunities, was more successful and is considered a teen cult classic though it, and Hot Spot threatened to typecast her in the "sexpot" stereotype.

She began studying English at Yale, but transferred two years later to Stanford. She did not graduate from either institution.

The big-budget Disney film The Rocketeer (1991) similarly failed to restart Connelly’s career.

The moody indie film Far Harbor (1996), showed her playing against type and hinted at a much broader range than she had previously shown. Connelly began to appear in smaller but well regarded films such as Inventing the Abbotts (1997) and Waking the Dead (2000). The film Dark City (1998) afforded her the chance to work with such top-flight actors as Rufus Sewell, William Hurt, Ian Richardson and Kiefer Sutherland. Connelly revisited her ingenue image again (although in a more understated way) for the film Pollock (2000).

Comeback

Connelly’s big breakthrough finally came in the 2000 film Requiem for a Dream. The edgy, experimental film started Connelly and Jared Leto as drug users on the edge of a breakdown. The film, which was a big critical success, firmly established Jennifer Connelly as a serious, talented actress. Connelly’s star was on the rise and she next starred in Ron Howard’s film A Beautiful Mind (2001).

Connelly essayed the role of Alicia Nash, the long-suffering wife of a brilliant mathematician John Nash, (played by Russell Crowe) who struggles with mental illness. The film, based on real life events, was a critical and commercial success and earned Connelly an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress - which she won. Clearly established in film, Connelly could work with the best and brightest talent in both commercial and independent film.

Connelly starred in two films in 2003: The Hulk and House of Sand and Fog. The Hulk was something of a box office disappointment, but afforded Connelly the chance to work with noted director Ang Lee. House of Sand and Fog, based on the novel by Andre Dubus, was reminiscent of much of her independent film work of the late 1990s.

Connelly’s most recent film is Dark Water (2005). Dark Water, based on a Japanese film, was a foray into subtle horror that failed to win over either critics or audiences.

Personal life

Connelly is married to the British actor Paul Bettany, whom she met while working on A Beautiful Mind; the couple’s son, Stellan (named after Stellan Skarsgård), was born August 5, 2003. She has also a five-year-old son, Kai, from a previous relationship.

Tiffani Amber Thiessen

Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (born January 23, 1974 in Long Beach, California, USA to Frank Thiessen and Robyn Ernest) is an American television and film actress. After many years of going by her full name, she is now credited as simply Tiffani Thiessen. Thiessen had a restraining order against KLSX’s Frosty Stilwell for stalking.

As a child, she competed in many beauty pageants, and she won the Miss Junior America pageant in 1987. Her first big break in show business was her role on the television program Saved By The Bell, as nice girl teen Kelly Kapowski. This was very different from her next major role, as a duplicitous vixen on Beverly Hills, 90210. She later starred in the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl and the short-lived action show Fastlane.

Her transition to movies has not gone well so far, as most of her movies, including Love Stinks, have been critically panned. In 2002, she appeared in the film Hollywood Ending by Woody Allen.

In March 1999, her boyfriend at the time, actor David Strickland (Suddenly Susan), committed suicide.

On July 9, 2005, she married actor Brady Smith. It is the first marriage for both.

Halle Berry

Halle Maria Berry (born August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an Academy Award-winning actress and model.

Biography

Early life and career

Halle on the Dec 2002 cover of VogueHalle Berry was named after Halle’s Department Store, a local landmark in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the daughter of Judith Ann Hawkins, a caucasian of English ancestry, and Jerome J. Berry, who is African-American. Berry’s maternal grandmother, Nellie Dicken, was born in Sawley, Derbyshire, England, while her maternal grandfather, Earl Ellsworth Hawkins, was born in Ohio. Berry’s parents divorced when she was 4 years old and she subsequently was raised by her mother, a psychiatric-ward nurse. She also has an older sister, Heidi.

Berry was a popular student at Bedford High School and was a cheerleader, honor society member, editor of the school newspaper, class president and prom queen. She worked in the children’s department at Higbee’s Department Store. Her personality, as described by a co-worker, was expressed in these terms…"I can hardly believe how sweet and nice she had been to everyone. People who weren’t half as beautiful as she did not display the kind of inner beauty she exhibited." She subsequently attended Cuyahoga Community College.

Before becoming an actress, she entered several beauty contests, including Miss Ohio USA, Miss Teen All American, Miss USA (first runner-up in 1986) and Miss World.

Hollywood career

In the late 1980s, she went to Chicago to pursue a modeling career as well as acting. One of her first acting projects was a television series for local cable by Gordon Lake Productions called "Chicago Force."

Berry auditioned for a role in an updated Charlie’s Angels television series by producer Aaron Spelling. At the time, Spelling wanted one of the "Angels" to be a African American woman. She did not get the role (because the project never materialized) but she impressed Spelling with her skills, encouraging her to continue perfecting her craft.

In 1989, Berry landed the role of brainy Emily Franklin in the short-lived ABC television series Living Dolls (which was a spin-off of Who’s the Boss?). Her breakthrough feature film role was in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever where she played a drug addict named Vivian. Her first co-starring role was in the film Strictly Business. Another one of her early roles was in a supporting capacity in the Flintstones movie where she played "Sharon Stone" (a part rumored to have been intended for Sharon Stone). The year before, Berry really caught the public’s attention with her portrayal as a female slave in the TV adaption of Queen: The Story of an American Family.

Berry is also known by most comic book fans for her portrayal of Storm in the movie adaptation of the successful comic book X-Men (2000) and its successful sequel X2: X-Men United (2003). Berry will reprise her role again in the third installment X-Men 3 scheduled for a May 2006 release. In late 2003 Berry starred in the thriller Gothika, which was the first film that she "carried," i.e., her role was the most important one in the film.

Marriages

Berry has been married twice. Her first marriage in 1992 to baseball player David Justice ended in a 1996 divorce due to infidelity. Her second marriage in 2001 to musician Eric Benét has resulted in a 2004 separation (and 2005 divorce) reportedly due to Benét’s infidelity. She has said that she will never marry again. Although she does not have any children herself, she is close to her step-daughter India from her marriage to Benét and is also rumored that she is pregnant by her current boyfriend (Michael Ealy). Berry does have two Maltese dogs: Miss Polly and Little Willie.

Berry won an Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for her portayal of Dorothy Dandridge in the HBO movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. Interestingly, Dorothy Dandridge was the first African American woman to be nominated for a best actress Academy Award. Another similarity the two women shared was being born in the same hospital.
Berry won a Razzie for her starring role in 2004’s Catwoman. She made headlines by accepting her award in person, an unusual gesture that was last performed by Tom Green in 2001. Berry accepted her award with dignity, saying, "When I was a kid, my mother told me that if you could not be a good loser, then there’s no way you could be a good winner" but adding "I hope to God I never see these people again!" shortly afterward. At the podium, she appeared with her Razzie in one hand, and her 2002 Oscar in the other.

Controversy

In February 2000, she was involved in a car accident when she struck another vehicle after running a red light and left the scene before the police arrived. Berry, who had sustained a head injury, later stated she had no recollection of the accident and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge. She paid a fine, made restitution to the other driver, performed community services, and was placed on three years’ probation.
Having long refused to do any nude scenes, much was made of her first topless scene in the film Swordfish, a thirty-second scene for which she allegedly was paid an additional US$500,000. She followed this with a more extended nude love scene in Monster’s Ball. Her appearance in this film won her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002. As Bond Girl Jinx in 2002’s Die Another Day she famously re-created the scene from Dr. No, bursting from the surf - scantily clad - to be greeted by James Bond, as Ursula Andress did 40 years earlier.

Trivia

In 2003, Berry was named in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll.
Also in 2003, Berry was on Punk’d, MTV’s celebrity prank show.
She has diabetes and acquired unilateral hearing loss (80% hearing loss in one ear) after being severely beaten by a former boyfriend. Accounts differ as to whether the abusive boyfriend was Wesley Snipes or Christopher Williams.
She is currently living with her boyfriend Michael Ealy of Barbershop fame.

Faith Hill biography

Faith Hill

Audrey Faith Perry, later known as Faith Hill (born September 21, 1967 in Jackson, Mississippi), is an American country singer, known for her commercial success as well as her much-publicized marriage to country singer Tim McGraw.

Early life

Hill was raised in Star, Mississippi and began singing at a very early age. After graduating high school, Hill went to college briefly before dropping out and moving to Nashville in an attempt at starting a singing career.

Hill is adopted and met her biological mother in the early 1990s. She was married to a music executive named Dan Hill from 1988 to 1994. Working as a secretary in a music publishing company, Hill’s singing was noticed as she sang to herself one day. She soon signed to Warner Brothers Records.

Country success

Hill’s debut album was Take Me As I Am (1993); sales were strong, buoyed by the chart success of "Wild One". A version of Janis Joplin’s "Piece of My Heart", also went to the top of the country charts. She was delayed in the recording of her second album by surgery on her vocal cords. It Matters to Me finally appeared in 1995 and was another success, with the title track becoming her fourth #1 country single.

Hill began seeing country singer Tim McGraw. When he proposed marriage to her in one of his tour trailers, he had to go perform right then, so she took a permanent marker and wrote her answer on the mirror. Hill began touring with McGraw and married him on October 6, 1996. The couple has three children together: Gracie Katherine, Maggie Elizabeth and Audrey Caroline.

Pop crossover

Faith Hill’s Album BreatheHill’s 1998 album, Faith, moved her closer towards a mainstream, pop-oriented sound, which lost her many of her long-time fans. "This Kiss" became a #1 country hit, and went to #7 on the pop charts.

Hill’s fame grew rapidly as she signed an endorsement deal with CoverGirl makeup and released Breathe, an even more successful pop hit that became one of the biggest albums of 2000. The title track "Breathe" was the #1 pop airplay song that year and has become Hill’s signature song; especially notable is the power and control she shows in her lower register during the song. "The Way You Love Me" hit the top ten as well (#7), and becoming one of the longest running singles in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 (57 weeks). The album won Hill three Grammy Awards including Best Country Album.

By the holidays she had contributed "Where Are You Christmas?" to the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the following summer she recorded the Diane Warren penned "There You’ll Be" for the Pearl Harbor soundtrack.

In 2002, Hill released Cry. Though the album debuted at #1 on Billboard magazine’s pop and country album charts, its singles (including the title track, written and originally performed by Angie Aparo) received much less radio airplay than her previous smashes. In fact, country radio pretty much ignored the songs, considering them "too pop". The album did win one Grammy Award.

In the summer of 2004, Hill co-starred with Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick in director Frank Oz’s remake of the 1975 thriller The Stepford Wives.

She references this sojourn in Hollywood as well as the chilly reception of Cry in the 2005 country release "Mississippi Girl", the first single from her back-to-roots album Fireflies. It worked, as the song restored her to the top of the country charts. She performed this song along with "Breathe" and "Piece of My Heart" at the Live 8 concert in Rome on July 2, 2005, where McGraw also performed.
